Bonide Sedge Ender Weed Control

Sedge Ender Weed Control kills yellow nutsedge, crabgrass, goosegrass, foxtail, and other grassy weeds down to their roots.

It is safe to use on both warm and cool season grasses such as bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue, Bermuda grass, and carpetgrass.

Pre & Post Emergent Control

This product is designed for application before or after weeds have sprouted. It kills the roots and shoots of existing weeds while preventing the growth of newly emerged weed seedlings.

Our herbicide spray starts working on contact and is rainproof within hours. For best results, apply with enough time for it to completely dry before it rains. Will not wash off after it has dried.

So it''s been about two weeks since first application and within about five days the nutsedge turned from that Limey annoying green to red yellow and very unhealthy appearing while the grass seems healthy and green.

After I would mow, the next day the nutsedge would already have grown an inch above the freshly cut grass in a day and now the nutsedge isn''t growing taller than the grass.

Will see how this works over the summer, it''s may 17 now. I have a ton of nutsedge for some reason in my otherwise perfect lawn.

Update:

New nutsedge is growing and I''ve applied three rounds of this stuff. Only makes the nutsedge I have sickly and red and brown but does not kill it to the root, in fact some of the sickly appearing sedge now are growing new shoots/leaves... Will keep spraying this until I have them killed...

July 26, 2016 update

No more nutsedge in my lawn. It took literally 20 applications of this to get to this point but my lawn is nutsedge free

This will be somewhat lengthy but please bear with me. I removed all of the grass/turf in my front yard and went with xerascaping/native plants and had no idea the turf I was removing was actually nutsedge, so I was not happy to see it all growing back once the landscaping had been done. I did my research all over the internet and even reading University Horticulture departments research studies on this obnoxious weed. I discovered:
1. The only products to have measured success in killing nutsedge is Sedgehammer Plus and Bonide Sedgender. Nothing else works long term.
2. Sedgehammer Plus kills both yellow and purple nutsedge, but Bonide kills only the purple nutsedge; so it''s important to know which type you have. You can find out how anywhere on the internet googling nutsedge.
3. It grows through anything, even concrete, but there is a weed barrier that has more success than most in university studies. It''s a nonwoven spunbonded polypropylene. The emerging nutsedge shoots have trouble punching through the tangled mat of fibers in this type of barrier. Dupont Typar 307 and 312 (3 oz. per square yard weight) rated the most effective in a university trial. I could never find that product but if you google spunbonded polypropylene you should find some alternative. I haven''t bothered with the weed barrier, because the infestation was so bad it would have been a waste. Everything I read said to eradicate the infestation first. And yes, infestation was the word used by everyone describing this weed!
4. Depending on the level of infestation it will take diligent herbicide treatments for 2-3 years! Be prepared for a long war.
5. The Sedgehammer takes longer to kill the weeds, but works better getting to the roots. Bonide is quicker, but doesn''t get down to the roots as well.
6. You really need both products. Don''t wait the 10-14 days between treatments because this weed grows so quickly you''ll miss the new tubers coming up through the soil and once it has 5 "grass" blades on it it''s growing cycle has slowed substantially, so the herbicide won''t be sucked into the plant as fully as you want. You need to spray them when they are small with only 2-3 blades on the it.
7. I spent 7 weeks last fall alternating each week between the Sedgerhammer Plus and Bonide and I actually eradicated a large swath of the infestation.
8. I knew it would be back and sure enough it was this spring, but less than 1/2 of what it had been before. So, I started again and it''s working, but it takes a lot of work, consistent spraying and really both products to kill it.
9. So, be prepared for the expense.

Good luck!

This stuff works great for killing that nut sedge. I mean "graveyard dead". And it does not kill fescue or bluegrass. Look, just mix it right and spray it on in the morning about 0900 (before the sun gets too high in the sky) and wait about four days - that stuff is dead. Don''t cut the grass before you spray or for 48 hours after spraying. The Sedge Ender needs the sun to shine on the blades to propagate down to the rhizome. If you cut too soon you wont kill the rhizome and the leafs/blades will come back.

Very happy with Sedge Ender. I first tried Image from Home Depot on my yellow nutsedge & a few other weeds. I followed the instructions & even applied multiple times but it did nothing. I mixed Sedge Ender with Southern Ag surfactant (even though the instructions say not to use a surfactant) & the weeds were yellowing within 18 hrs. Amazing stuff. It rained 2 hrs after application & it still worked. I have some bronzing of the turf but I think the grass will be fine. That''s how it looks when my lawn company treats weeds too & the grass is always fine after a week or so.

Another good thing about this stuff is that it''s bright yellow so you can see where you have already sprayed. That way you don''t double spray an area, which I did with Image because it''s clear.

***** Update 4 weeks later. I mixed the initial application too strong & I still have a few brown spots. Totally my fault though & I still love this stuff. I pulled it back to about 4 oz per gallon & it still works great. Takes a few days to kill sedge this way but it doesn''t hurt the grass. I''d give it a 6 star review if I could. I fired my lawn company bc they couldn''t control the sedge & I killed every last weed in about 4 weeks. I now have one of the best lawns on my street again. I bought 3 more bottles of this.

I''ve had a long standing (no pun intended) nutgrass problem for a couple of years now. Even resorted to "painting" on glyphosate, which is non trivial given the quantity of nutgrass I have.

Mixed about 2.5 ounces of this stuff into 1 gallon of water. I didn''t quite of 1000 sqft to cover, so I ended up dumping about 1/3rd of it. A good tip is to use Google Maps to "draw" a box around the areas you intend to treat and it will give you a pretty accurate square footage measurement.

Per the label, I did not add any surfactant. Unlike stuff like crabgrass, nutgrass doesn''t seem to shed liquid as easily and so it did not appear that I needed it.

I sprayed the nutgrass infestation around 10am on Sunday. 24 hours later, and there is clear browning of the nutgrass and it''s not standing nearly as tall as the day before. At this rate, I expect most of it to be totally dead within a week. And, so far at least, the surrounding grass (which is some bluegrass but mostly tall fescue) does not appear to be affected.

So far, so good. My only complaint is that this stuff is quite thick and viscous, and cleaning off my measuring equipment took several minutes.

In the summer I have a bad infestation of wiregrass and Sedge. The wiregrass I can controll but the sedge needs its own product to kill it. There is another product out called sedgehammer and I debated buying that but ultimately went with this because it is much more cost effective. Well it also doesn''t work great.

The sedge I was trying to kill was about 10" tall but had not started to seed yet. I used this product according to directions and in 3 days I could see results. The product worked awesome and 2 weeks later all the sedge had died ..... sort of. I noticed that the leaves had died but the base of the plant was still active and a few weeks later it came back to life. So I sprayed again, but this time was too much for the grass. We have been in a drought this year and 1 treatment of wiregrass a few weeks later the treatment of sedge and then a month later the second treatment of sedge was just too much for the grass. I lost about half my yard due to spraying.

Is it this products fault? Sort of. Yes you are not supposed to spray in the summer, but that''s when the weeds are growing and if you don''t spray them they get stronger and multiply. If the first treatment had done its job and killed the sedge, I would have never sprayed a second time leaving me grassless.

Overall the product does work, but it will most likely need 2-4 applications over several months to fully kill the weed. Next time I might try something different.

I have well established Sedge. I was actually shocked at how fast it worked because in two days they were becoming very brow. I only did test spots as I was worried if it would damage my empire. It stressed it that is for sure so I recommend spot spraying to be safe. I mixed it this way...I mixed it with an amount By using a Stella beer bottle to the bottom edge of the label. About 3 ounces. to a Gallon. Worked like a charm as I know I will always have a measuring bottle around :)

Update: Just an hour after posting this on day 5 it appears to have killed my Empire in the spot tested areas. I will water and follow up in 1 month.

Followup: I mixed it too strong. I doubled the amount of water and used it on a new area carefully broadcasting lightly with a moderate speed. In less than 2 days the sedge is brown and the Zosia is green . The photo to the right is my second application. I let the sedge grow taller (as it will) and then applied as aboveYou can clearly see the Zoysia is not effected. I could find a few spots that the zoysia has wilted but have learned that this product is meant to be broadcast rather quickly and overlapping or pausing will indeed over stress you grass. Following the instructions is a must.

This is the only poison that kills nutgrass.

I went thermonuclear war on the nutgrass. I tried glyphosate "round up," and the nutgrass just laughed. I tried to pull it by the "nut," and it multiplied. I went with hydrocarbons, and it only killed the tops, more grass would sprout. I tried a different "nutgrass" poison, and nothing. I even tried injecting the poison directly into the roots and plant itself.

Finally, I tried Sedge Ender. I mixed it with glyphosate because I wanted to bring DEATH! Segde Ender killed the nutgrass! I bought more the next week.
